Compendium of existing innovative and effective validation practices and tools

Who is this compendium for?

The Compendium will be a unique and innovative package of existing effective validation practices and tools ensuring that information compiled in the Compendium will be for the use of national VNFIL providers who are trying to identify innovative and supporting practices and tools to work more effectively.

How is the Compendium intended to be used?

The goal is to introduce users to a range of effective validation practices and tools available in the VNFIL field.
The VNFIL community is encouraged to browse the Compendium to select approaches that meet the needs of specific types of providers (VET or AL) or VNFIL professionals (trainers, assessors, guidance counselors, etc)
This information will ultimately be available online and will be part of an interactive, search-able tool to link users to the evolving innovative and effective VNFIL practices and tools suited for particular groups.
This compendium is therefore to be considered a snap shot of the current state of affairs, and will be updated regularly as more evidence emerges in this rapidly changing field.
The Compendium is also intended to be a key reference to adapt, update and further develop VNFIL strategies.

E-portfolio

E-portfolio – an on-line tool, aiming to prepare self-evaluation.

An electronic portfolio ( e-portfolio) aiming to collect electronic evidence assembled and managed by a user, on the Web to self-assess personal skills and competencies gained through non-formal and informal learning before proceeding to VNFIL.
E-portfolios will be a demonstration of the VNFIL candidate’s abilities. They may be used as a screening tool to determine whether the candidate is ready for a full validation procedure, or to identify needed competences.
Such electronic evidence of learning and working experience will include input text, electronic files, images, multimedia, blog entries, links and other evidences and is intended to be dynamically updated by the user and transferable
E-portfolios, on the one hand, will facilitate candidates’ reflection on their own learning, leading to more awareness of learning strategies and needs. On the other hand, e-portfolios will help teachers, trainers, assessors, guidance counselors and a whole range of VNFIL professionals to assess and validate the candidates‘ skills and competencies.

Online training programme

Two different training programmes are foreseen:

(1) For trainers /assessors: containing useful tips on how to organize training for all professionals involved in VNFIL to increase their knowledge and skills to develop and implement a range of activities and services to improve access to VNFIL.
(2) For guidance counselors: aiming to increase guidance counselors’ capacity to provide high-quality advice and information to VINFIL candidates.
It will be tested internationally during a training to partners staff due to take place in Italy and at national level near VNFIL professionals and after that it will be finalised and fully transferable

National strategy papers (NSP) to support VNFIL providers in VET/AL

The National Strategy Papers (NSP) aim to advocate for quality and efficiency of the VNFIL system, supporting society and policymakers.
NSP are intended to address the existing gaps in some countries’ national strategies, which include: insufficient support for take-up of validation, and/or low visibility of the process, a low involvement of the voluntary sector, lack of digital tools, and weak links between validation activities in the public, private and voluntary sector (Cedefop Inventory VNFIL 2014).
Designing national strategies and recommendations would support quality and efficient VNFIL system and help to create such links and foster cooperation.
